Renaming MATIC to POL
Polygon successfully transitioned from its native token, MATIC, to a new token, POL, beginning September 4th. This migration was part of Polygon's strategic upgrade to strengthen its blockchain ecosystem, with POL serving as the central token across all Polygon chains, including the PoS network and Polygon 2.0 architecture.
How has this affected Coin Wallet users?
In Coin Wallet, the majority of MATIC holders stored it as an Ethereum ERC20 token or as a native MATIC coin on the Polygon blockchain. Depends on your MATIC type, there are different actions you need to take. First, make sure you have Coin Wallet v6.5.2 or higher.
MATIC (ERC20 on Ethereum) migration
The old MATIC (ERC20) contact (0x7D1AfA7B718fb893dB30A3aBc0Cfc608AaCfeBB0) has been changed to the new one (0x455e53cbb86018ac2b8092fdcd39d8444affc3f6). Polygon developers released a special upgrade tool where using WallectConnect you can exchange 1:1 old ERC20 MATIC tokens to the new POL tokens:
1. Open https://portal.polygon.technology/pol-upgrade and click the "Connect Wallet" button.
2. Select "WalletConnect" option.
3. Copy the URI link.
4. Paste into Coin Wallet: "Settings" ⇒ "WalletConnect" and click "Connect.".
5. Enter the amount and confirm MATIC to POL upgrade.
6. Add the POL (ERC20) token to Coin Wallet and check the balance.
After the upgrade is completed, you will see a positive POL balance.
MATIC (native Polygon PoS coin) migration
The migration process is seamless and does not require any additional steps from the holders of native Polygon coins. Simply be aware that the Polygon symbol MATIC has been changed to POL in your list of cryptocurrencies.
