How to Import an Existing Wallet Using a Seed Phrase

Hi crypto fans 📱
Another crypto wallet may be necessary at any time, especially if you want to keep your assets private. The interfaces of different wallets, such as MetaMask, Trust Wallet, Coin Wallet, and others, vary widely; however, the logic of the migration flow is always the same — you need to use your seed phrase.
Here, we have collected our guides for migration from different crypto wallets and created a short manual. Believe it or not, when you understand the logic of migration, you can access your assets from any wallet without additional instructions.
Important Things to Understand Before You Begin
A seed phrase is a combination of 12 or 24 random words that can give you access to your assets in a new wallet.
In fact, your wallet app is not a wallet in the traditional sense, like a bank account. Your coins are stored on the blockchain, and the wallet functions like a control panel that allows you to manage your crypto.
That’s why you must not show your seed phrase or share it on the Internet. Getting your seed phrase means giving access to your assets.
The General Migration Flow
Step 1. Choose and set up a wallet app
At the beginning, you should decide which type of wallet you would like to use: a browser extension like MetaMask or Trust Wallet, a mobile app like Coin Wallet, or a cold wallet like Ledger or Tangem.
Keep in mind that you should download a wallet app only from official websites because scammers often create fake clones of popular wallets in order to steal your data.
Step 2. Choose the “Import” option
After you have opened your crypto wallet app, you will have two options: either “Create a new wallet” or “Import wallet / I already have a recovery phrase.”
You should choose the second option to import your previous wallet.
Before the migration process, you need to find your seed phrase. Sometimes, you can get it from the wallet itself (if you didn’t write it down after registration).

Step 3. Enter your seed phrase to access your assets
This is the most critical moment. The wallet system asks you to enter the words of your seed phrase in strict order.
It can be 12, 15, 18, 21, or 24 words. The language is usually English because this is the BIP-39 standard.
After entering the seed phrase, the app asks you to set a PIN code or take additional safety measures.

Keep in mind that the PIN is only required to log in to the app on this specific device. If you download the wallet on another device, you need to set a new PIN.

The Final Thought: Why Don’t You See Your Funds After Import?
Many users get worried when, after a successful import, they see a “0” balance. In 95% of cases, this is not theft but a technical nuance:
The network is not selected: If your coins are stored on the BSC (BNB Chain) network, but the wallet is opened on the Ethereum network by default, you won’t see them. You just need to switch the network in the settings.
The token needs to be added: The wallet displays only major coins by default. To see other tokens (for example, USDT), you need to add them manually by entering the token’s contract address.
Different derivation paths: In rare cases, apps use different derivation paths. If the balance is empty, check the path type used in the wallet settings.
